A Freewrite!!!!!

Freewrite: "I remember where I was when..."

Last night was a fantastic night for Canada. It's times like that that I am going to remember for a long, long time...times like that that make me proud to be who I am and from where I am from.

Hockey is totally Canada's game and I have many memories of "where I was when" special things happened. I remember where I was standing in the rink when the rockets won the Prov championship in 1995. I remember intertwining my hands in the wire (something my mom would have been ticked off about) and watching my Dad lean up against the rafter brace as he coached. I remember the crowd and how big it was and how proud I was to be from Raymore when the buzzer went and we won that game.

I remember national events as well. I remember where I was when Canada beat the United States in the Salt Lake City Olympics of 2002. I was in Hancock Hall, a dorm on the University of Maine campus. It figures that I would be in the USA when that happened! It's ironic that I was in Hancock because that is where I ended up living when I came to UMaine that fall-- I lived there for 2 years. I was as proud of my country then as I am today.

I know I will remember yesterday's game for a long time as well; sitting on the couch, nervous with heart pounding...not talking to my husband, who sat beside me but wore stars and stripes instead of the maple leaf. I will remember the roar of the crowd, the passion of the country, the emotion in my own heard that I know was shared by 30 million other Canadians... my elated feeling that this is what it's all about. It was an amazing moment.

  1. I remember where I was when 9/11 happened. I had just come home and i saw my mom talking on the phone in a surprised expression. The t.v. was on and i saw the twin towers and i didn't really know what was going on. I was just looking at the t.v. wondering what happened. I don't really know why i remember that because at the time it wasn't very important to me but i guess that my subconscious knew something important was happening and i remembered it.

  3. I remember where I was when I heard that my great grandfather passed away. It was me, my dad, and my brother at my house when my mom called and told us the news. My mom was down at Cape Cod spending time with him. I was having a snack and doing my homework at the kitchen table. My brother was on the couch watching T.V. And my dad was doing work on his Lap Top. The phone rang and my dad went to go pick it up. When he was talking he went into the other room. Then he came back in and told us the news. We all thought it wasnt going to happen that early.

  4. I remember where I was when I found out that my sister was pregnant with her 4th child. She told every one before me except my brother. She was making her 3 other daughters guess what the surprise was. She told them that she was having a baby. When she told me we were sitting on the couch. It was the 26th of February.

  9. I remember where I was when i caught my first fish on a fly rod. I was fishing the Sandy river in Strong, ME, and I was 13 years old. I had just learned how to fly-fish that week and i used a #7 hopper. There was an eddy that flowed under an overhanging tree and i made a perfect cast and let it flow under the tree. I hooked a small brook trout and brought him in. I was really happy.

  10. I remember where I was when the tragic earthquake hit Haiti. On January 12, 2010 a level seven earthquake hit Haiti that was recorded as the worst earthquake in 200 years. The initial quake was followed by twelve aftershocks greater than a level 5. Structures of all kind were damaged or collapsed, from run down towns to national landmarks. Over 600,00 had been reported injured and 300,00 dead and very many missing or unidentified. The earthquake crushed Haiti’s development prospects again after four years of positive economic growth. This earthquake could potentially plunge the country into disaster. When I heard all this I was with my father and my younger sister celebrating my fathers 50th birthday. I was full of mixed emotions sense it was a day to celebrate and a day to feel remorse for the people in Haiti.

  11. I remember where I was when.....

    1) 9/11 happened. When I lived in NYC, I went to a private school. We had gotten out early, which was strange because we usually never did. I remember sitting in my parent's bedroom in our apartment, my mom in the living room. She had the TV on, was crying and was calling my dad. She kept yelling to the phone, and my dad kept saying something but I couldn't hear him. Later on in the day, I heard that the two Twin Towers had been crashed into, and I knew something bad had happened with my dad. His building was near the Twin Towers, and his office was engulfed in smoke from the tragedy. Luckily, he got out alive and unhurt. It was still scary.

    2) There was a shooting near my old school. One day, during school, everything was completely normal. My mom had come to pick me up for a horseback riding lesson, and we started pulling out of the parking lot. We drove past the Country Store, and I noticed a police car. Once I got home, I heard on the news that there was a shooting at the Country Store. I watched the news for hours, just reporting live things happening. It started off with a man, Travis Trim, at the store. He had shot a police man, but luckily he had on a bullet proof vest. The man drove away, and police kept coming around and around. I had eaten at a little restaurant, and watched all the news reporter cars all over the town. Then, the man was surrounded in a field, near my friend's house. She had called me, and went outside, where you could hear the half dozen helicopters in the sky. Near the field was a policeman's house, filled with guns and ammo. The man had gone into the house, and started firing at the dozens of policemen. As I watched on the TV, the man had shot one of the police, and he died. The police then set the house on fire, and lots of people watched it burn. The man died, and the house was destroyed. A few months later, the house was rebuilt, and the highway was named after the police that was killed. It wasn't a very happy ending, but at least the man can't harm anyone now.

  12. I remember when I was in Jackman snowmobiling and I flipped my mom’s snowmobile. I was riding my mother’s sled because at that time, my brother and I shared a sled and my mom didn’t come, so that way I had my own sled to ride. Her sled is a little too powerful for me. We were on a small little trail, beside the road. I had to cross a street, and when I got to the other side, there was a small snow bank. I hit a patch of ice and my sled, technically my moms kind of lost control and I hit the throttle a little bit, and then the next thing I knew, I was on the side of my sled, I had jumped off and let it flip by itself. I probably would have gotten hurt if I didn’t jump. When I jumped, I pulled the kill switch and it made the snowmobile shut off. I got back up and rode to my camp, very fearful of what my mom was going to say. But the most important thing of all is that I was not hurt.

  13. I remember where I was when I first heard that Michael Jackson was dead. I was appalled. I thought it was something made up by the crazyyyyyyyyyyyyy paparazzi. Right after, I went to camp and there was a kid who wouldn’t stop crying and being depressed all the time. I was like, “What’s the matter with you fool?” He cried a little bit more then explained that Michael Jackson had died and I was like WHOAA! NO WAYY! He said that he wasn’t kidding. He showed me how to do the moonwalk and I then I was like, “Don’t worry, you don’t have any competition now. You can be the next Asian Michael Jackson.” I apologized for calling him a fool, then left. At the talent show, he danced and sang and I swore myself off dancers.

On the T.v news people were talking about the "terorists" that hijacked the planes. We went to a water park after breakfast, and that's when the acident was on the T.v. They were shutting down the park, and we had to leave. Then we went back to our hotel, and we had to drive home. We spent two days in the car.
